How to explain the Decalogue to contemporary youth?
Keywords:
Decalogue, moral norms, moral sensitivityAbstract
A significant part of contemporary pupils think that the Decalogue is a set of moral norms that have already lost their relevance in our times, and conforming to them hinders people’s everyday life and prevents them from experiencing the joy of life. In this situation, the task of parents, priests and other educators is to precisely explain to pupils from what evil the Decalogue protects us and to what good it leads us. All moralizing and intimidation must be avoided. However, it is worth helping young people to discover that respecting the norms included in the Decalogue is still relevant today. It is also worth reminding the pupils that the ultimate goal and fulfillment of the Decalogue are the three commandments of love: to God, to oneself and to one’s neighbor.
