“Religious Song in Catechesis”. Psychological-didactic and methodological-practical dimensions

Abstract

Singing, adapted to the level and age of children and young people, plays a key role in the process of activating students during catechesis. Both in the class and family community, it can be noticed that singing is not only a natural form for a child, by selecting appropriate religious songs we bring the student closer to God himself, who is the source of beauty, goodness and truth. The didactic values that singing religious songs brings include: getting to know God through a rich form of expression, purifying action by directing consciousness towards religious goals, or developing cognitive processes of children and young people, such as: perceptiveness, attention, memory and efficiency of mental operations. The use of religious songs in catechesis is an effective and attractive didactic method that engages students at various emotional, intellectual and spiritual levels. Religious songs, due to their melodiousness and rhythm, can act as a carrier of catechetical content, facilitating the acquisition of religious teachings and Christian values.
