The Catechetical Priorities in the Programmatic Teaching of Bishop Artur Ważny

The article is the first attempt to characterize the catechetical priorities in the programmatic teaching of the third diocesan bishop, Artur Ważny. The analysis was based on two documents issued by him on taking over the diocese, which were described by the bishop himself as “programmatic”. The first is a pastoral letter addressed to the faithful, and the second is the text of the homily delivered during his installation at the Sosnowiec Cathedral Basilica. These documents were analyzed, and then the main principles presented by the bishop were specified. Based on these reflections, catechetical implications were formulated. The article highlights the rarely discussed topic of catechesis in the Diocese of Sosnowiec. Additionally, it is one of the few reflections on the practical application of Pope Francis’ pastoral directives in the work of catechesis conducted by the Polish Church.
