The role of Christian witness in the family

Abstract

The modern family is experiencing a great crisis that has been growing for several decades and is currently tearing society apart, which can be observed in the modern world. The family faces many threats that seek to destroy it by devaluing its role and values for the Church and society. Therefore, there is a justified need for scientific reflection and other activities on numerous levels of social life and the life of faith, which would restore the family’s splendor and significant importance, which has been lost in recent years. In his teaching, John Paul II reminded us that man will not understand and know himself without Christ, just as we can say that man will not understand the enormous value and strength of the family without Christ. Humanity reaches its fullness in Christ. Faith allows us to more fully discover this gift of humanity, its value and meaning, and to more fully realize the vocation to marriage and teaches us responsibility for the family that is born in this sacrament. The witness given to Christ in the family takes on a clear form when it harmonizes with the mature witness of humanity. The significant role of witness in the family is expressed in the tasks it fulfills. The witness of humanity is expressed in the task of building a communion of persons and a lasting marriage, based on responsible love and respect for the person and the human body, commitment in the maturation of love and the realization of parenthood. Giving witness to faith in the family unites and strengthens it, it is like a breakwater against the sea carrying all the threats that want to attack the family in order to weaken it and take away its authority.
