Abstract

Each pupil needs to be motivated and supported by educators because - contrary to currently fashionable ideologies - human development is not a spontaneous process. Motivation for development does not involve imposing external goals or aspirations on pupils, but fostering and supporting their own positive desires and aspirations, which require effort, discipline, perseverance and work on one’s own character in order to be fulfilled. Stimulating pupils to follow their valuable desires is particularly important with regard to society, which restricts and distorts human desires and provokes children and young people to follow what is pleasant and easier to achieve instead of what is valuable, though difficult to achieve. The task of responsible educators is to combine the pedagogy of desire and pedagogy of decision making with the pedagogy of fidelity.
